I also purchase the same trashcan but I didn’t have the same problems, infact I didn’t have any problems at all! When I first got the trashcan, I also thought that the noise coming from the lid was a little annoying but in time I got over it and it’s not like I’m using it all the time. The trashcan is meant for trash and not display, so putting it where there aren’t any heavy traffic will eliminate the noise.

When I first came upon the website I was skeptic about these types of products because as all of you are aware, products like these especially one on infomercials are not very trustworthy. The Touchless Trashcan claims that it can outlast a regular trashcan for up to 10 years and will make throwing trash easier than every. Since it offered a 30-day money back guarantee I decided to give it a try and boy am I glad I did!

What amazes me about this product is that it actually works! The infrared sensor detects any movement within 6 inches and automatically opens the lid; once you remove your hands it closes the lid all by itself. I’ve used other products similar to this before but the lid broke within days of use and the battery died. It’s so easy and I never have worry about having hands full or the germs and bacteria getting elsewhere, I don’t even have to clean it regularly anymore. Ever since I got the trashcan, my niece won’t stop throwing away my trash!

I was surprised that for such a unique product like this, it doesn’t need anything special. I thought it would need to use special trash bags or special batteries, but it don’t! I can use any regular trash bag and I can even purchase the batteries from any store like Walgreen’s. Most of all it’s very durable, it’s made out of stainless steel so it can tolerate abuse. But this product is basically effortless, how much abuse can it tolerate if I don’t even touch it at all? Compared to the foot pedal ones, this is far more advance than that. I used the foot pedal ones before and it broke within a month use and whenever I step on it too hard; it fell over and spilled all my trash! And then there’s always the choice of using a trashcan without a lid, but then it stink up the entire room.

They look very modern and stylish. I’m actually thinking of buying more so I can place it in my office and the bathroom. This is definitely worth it!

This item works great. The only drawback is the poor design of the plastic bag holder. It is a flimsy plastic insert that is supposed to hold the plastic bags but it easily pushes down into the can as items are added to the bag. I rate the bag holder a minus 10. If you don’t mind the hassle with the bag holder it’s a good item. Personally, I would not purchase another one unless the bag holder problem is fixed.

There is no doubt that these cans look great; they are sleek and modern looking, and don’t take up a lot of space. However, I would not recommend them if they are going to be used in any area with foot traffic. The sensor device that opens the cans picks up virtually every movement, so whenever you walk by them, they open. And the noise of them opening and closing repeatedly is grating (not to mention a waste of battery life). Although they can be turned off completely, there is no way to turn off the automatic open/close sensor function, so either they are completely off, and useless, or on sensor mode, and annoying. It would have been nice if they could be placed in a mode where they are opened and closed manually with the on/off button (although even if such a function existed, it would be a bit impractical to have to push a button if you have trash or recycling in your hands). They can be opened (and left open) manually with the push of a button, which is okay, I suppose, if you don’t mind leaving your trash cans open all the time. I am sorry I didn’t just order pedal cans, which I think, in hindsight, would have made much more sense. One final point: It is a plus that they use standard trash bags (a lot of stainless steel cans require special bags), but I found the bag holder ring to be useless. 13-gallon bags stay in well enough without the rings, but if you use the rings as the directions indicate, you have to push the ring almost halfway down the length of the can, causing you to lose a lot of room you would otherwise have in the bag.
