How do I keep foxes and squirrels out of my trash?

I have to put my trash out the night before collection because they collect it so early but foxes and squirrels come overnight and tear the bags to shreds. Does anyone know of an effective repellent I can use to keep them away?

Try using moth balls. both the critters you mentioned have real good noses and they don’t like the smell of moth balls

get those trash cans with the handles that you can pull/push up so that they lock the lid in place or just keep them inside if possible. (in the garage not your living room) if the animals are chewing through your garbage cans, then good luck! get like hard core steel or bullet proof stuf.

You’ll need to put those bags IN a trash can. No repellent in the world will stop an animal from going for such easily accessible food short of poison.

liberally spray the trash with straight ammonia or better yet build an enclosure around your trash, make sure it also has a lid on it

Use a metal trash can with a lid. A plastic can might stop a fox but a squirrel will chew through it.

With the right can…you could bungee cord the handles together…
